I actually went to High School with one of those stuck up "Gender Fluid" assholes. "I'm a girl today, I was a boy yesterday" is literally how this person thought. I was genuinely sure that they were BSing everyone, but it did seem as though they believed their own delusions.

I believe some people are mentally a different gender, that's fine to me. I know transgender people, but this 'gender fluid' nonsense just goes too far for the sake of attention.

 

Gender is complicated. Then again people are complicated, so figures, no?

Gender is partly bio-neuro-psychological, partly genetic and physical, partly a sociocultural construct. And it's not strictly dichotomous and binary. So let's not go hating on people who just want to live their lives in their own way without hurting anybody, just because they don't fit in the neat arbitrary little categories we create in our minds to make sense of the world. Because that is not that far removed from fundamentalist philosophy.

I'm sure this the internet equivalent of dropkicking a hornet's nest (given how I see people online complaining about it on a daily basis), but I genuinely don't get why people get so upset -- dare I say "triggered"? -- about a teeny tiny percentage of people who feel different and want to express that. Why care?

When talking about gender fluidity the internet tends to lob you in with Tumblr weirdos who identify as "transfur" or "otherkin" and other stuff, but actually there's quite a bit of science showing that gender is more of a spectrum than a binary thing.

[Obligatory daily reminder that gender != sex (which also isn't binary, by the by)]

I think it's polite to call someone what they want to be called and, if it isn't unfairly detrimental to others, try to treat someone as they wish to be treated. Also one should try to mind ones own business where appropriate...

Being a Physics teacher and a tutor the students I teach over the past few years have become far more accepting of it than some of you lot are .

Are they hurting anyone else? No
Are they being bombarded with so much hyper sexualised content? Yes

Does this lead to people questioning the 'traditional' genders? Yes
