No worries, if I'm 100% honest I fear for the Monarchy with Charles at its head. I remember Princess Diana and how she was treated by him. He was already having an affair with Camilla before he married Diana. That burned quite a few bridges with how I perceived him, both as a man and future King. Any man who is willing to cheat on his wife is one that cannot be trusted as far as I'm concerned. Any man who cheats on his wife and mistreats her in the way he did is even worse. As I said before, the Royal Family needs modernising and William is that man, he is more down to earth, hasn't shown himself to be untrustworthy as far as I can tell and is a real dad to his children, much more than Charles ever was. I do agree it needs much more transparency in its monetary affairs too. I'd even go as far to say a total reform of how the Royal family is funded is essential. But I still do hold value in having a Royal family, because I do doesn't mean I'm totally blind that there are serious issues that do need resolving.
I think senior diplomats are cheaper (and if, say, they have sex with a 17-year old against her will, they can be sacked). That's the whole point: With a monarchy, you don't get to choose. By accident of birth Charles is next in line; Charles gets to be king. Please see the above comment. With a monarchy, you don't get to have a say.
Can be, but probably wouldn't be. I mean, if having your wife literally drive on the wrong side of the road, kill a kid, then flee the country by lying about being covered under your diplomatic immunity isn't grounds for dismissal... In other news ,remember the disgust at how anti-war protestors in Moscow were being arrested for things like holding up a blank sheet of paper? Good job that could never happen here... I don’t believe you! You’ve been saying you were leaving since we were arguing about Brexit! How long does it take to pack and book your flights?!?! Just kidding. If the Tories get in to power again, I think there will be a few more people looking to emigrate. My wife and I looked at New Zealand a few years back but with the kids at the age they were it wasn’t an option. A couple more years and we may consider it again. As much as I love Britain, I even have to admit the country is screwed up right now!
New Zealand is a nightmare to move to, my brother moved there and had to fight for it even though his partner has family out there! Canada is the same. Unsurprisingly the good countries don't make it easy!
Yeah I’d heard it wasn’t easy, my uncle moved to Australia when it was a pound passage from the UK, but always fancied New Zealand more as it’s more UK weather than Australia.
There was an unexpected delay (at risk of oversharing: my prostate that was first thought to be advanced cancer turned out to be benign, just really massive hyperplasia and went into acute retention so I could not pee at all and I had to have an indwelling catheter for three months --not fun-- until I could have HoLEP surgery --private; the NHS waiting list was 2 years(!) because it is a highly specialist surgical skill-- in which a laser was pushed up my urethra and my prostate hollowed out like a grapefruit... "Don't worry, just a little harmless prostate reduction. It won't hurt a bit..." ...All went well; I'm now peeing like a Karcher jetwash. HoLEP is magic!). We are now actually visiting France next week to look at a number of properties for sale. I have a niece in law living there. It's a beautiful country, still full of opportunity.
True enough, if you do a job they want it's easy enough. If you or a dependent have health issues it's tricky. This was 2016, not sure if it's changed https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-zealand-after-autistic-son-refused-residency It does, particularly on the South Island, I never understand why people move to Auckland as that city could just be anywhere in the world. The North Island is alot warmer up the top end. You get used to earthquakes I guess in an odd way. They do remind you how insignificant and at the whim of mother nature you are. I would say though when we flew over from there to see friends in Aus, Aus does just feel alot more comfortable and friendly. The kiwis do make the best flat whites on the planet though. But don't move there thinking you're moving to utopia, it has its own problems. Hopefully we'll visit again, we won't live there again, but we do want to head to the North Island when the Te Matatini is on. Edit: Things may have changed quite a bit. Jacinda impressed me even when she was deputy opposition leader so hopefully she's improved things.
Based on my "Not a Doctor" analysis of Charles' health - I give him 10 years max before William is King anyway. I tend to agree that William would be a "better" king for the country right now but tradition is tradition for a reason and I don't see Charles stepping aside without a very good reason.
Same as the old one. Whilst prtiler's protest paperwork is a shambolic shitshow, iirc all of the arrest have been on the back of older laws... If the fuzz want to arrest you, they'll find a reason. Also - Sorry to hear about the health problems, glad you're doing better. Also aren't you swapping one monarchy for another [Netherlands]?
Monarchies aren't the real problem though are they, they just waste a bit of tax payer money and don't do very much. Nexxo's real axe grinding is with politicians (fairly understandably). I assume Dutch politicians are not quite the braying manchildren we're burdened with here in the UK. Right?
Glad to hear @Nexxo about the all clear and improved flow @RedFlames he's heading to the Republic across the channel. I hear the Dutch Royals are currently mothballing a carriage that has kneeling slaves adorning its sides. Yeah, all three nations have colonial pasts to deal with - kind of a monarchy thing really. The French made a drastic change to their setup but the legacy remains.
Yes, big relief. I was panicking that the inherited wealth might not stay inherited wealth! Phew. I expect, for that concession, the ~100m that they cost the tax payer will not be taken for the 22-23 year. Oh wait. Grubby handed little swines will doubtless want that too.
Nope, going to the French republic. Their behaviour is more restrained, but unfortunately the ruling party (VVD) is trying very much to emulate the Tories in policies... Thanks!
