The engineeriong preset I mentioned above is 0.15, which seems to be the sweetspot. Once I've done my prototyping I'll do more testing, I'm mainly just exploring the Cura presets :)

Good folk of bit-tech, a little assistance if you please.

I have a smallish part of a friend's childcare gear that I need printing, I have a reasonable mockup in STEP format, could someone take a look and advise if it's vaguely on the money for firing off to a printer? Also, what would you advise for the smoothest surface finish in terms of settings?

It's effectively a lid. There are only 2 critical dims in the part, so there's actually quite a lot of flexibility if required. One is the central hole diameter (which I'll be able to drill manually) and the other is the inside diameter of the underside, as it clips over a ledge.

I've stuck it on Google drive for the moment: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EVzyx8x8oN1QfaFbysEXwcUax2LMgnyL/view?usp=share_link

Things have certainly changed a lot since i last posted. We have invested some extra coin in some decent printers allowing us to out-put a lot more plastic a lot faster :) Swapping out pretty much all our over worked small bed slinger style printers for a new Bambu Lab X1C and P1P machines with AMS systems. Still running a CR10Max for the extreme large job and a smaller Ender 5 Plus to help out. Then 3 x Cr10ProV2's and we are pretty much covered. This simple setup allows us to really ramp up when needed as well as allow me to print all my "fun stuff" :) Even the "light shades" above :p

We were getting swamped with rolls of filament so we decided to devote a single custom room with climate control . The Racks are converted ikea shelving with hardware rods and 3d printed brackets.

The rack give us and extra 128 rolls of open storage + bulk below.

We also made a similar smaller handy grab shelf for rolls for inside the print room.

We use these Dragon heads as our colour swatches for all the Dual and tri colour filament.

The old " Case Mod workshop" is now fully converted for 3D Printers. This is where all the real fun happens, building modding upgrading and selling 3D printers.

    Future projects !

This is also where the Resin printers are housed to keep the toxic fumes outa the house.

All in all it's been a fantastic journey and a most rewarding one... Even in the peek of my case modding days did i get as much fun as i do from this hobby . Case mods never made me as much coin! One day i might combine the two and see what i can come up with.... one day!

And some of the "fun rewards" This is for me the best part :)

Resin printing always blows me away with the detail.... this will be a must for case modding down the track :D

    Good to see you back!
I feel an overwhelming urge to do some 3d modeling after seeing that, but I have no ideas. :(
You BETTER do a case mod. The modding section is dead.

Good day all, I'm contemplating ordering a basic 3D filament printer and am after some advice from people with some personal experience.

I'm specifically looking at the upcoming ELGOO Neptune 4 pro. The use will be simple model making with the odd plastic bushing / plastic lock block for farm machinery.
As this would be my first 3D printer I'm not looking for anything too advanced / expensive but there is quite a lot of flexibility in the budget. As such would this be a good choice or is there something else to consider?

    Thanks

    Mike

After watching the LTT video on it, I'd say very much yes! Seem fantastic for the money, easy to use and fast, while being robust with good software.

Well I've ordered the Neptune 4 pro along with 3 kilos of filament direct from ELEGOO should get it sometime in September.

Total price will come somewhere around €320 and then I should get the TVA (VAT) back as I bought it on the farm account as it will be getting used for making parts for the tractors and brackets etc for electric fencing kit. I may have a bit of trouble explaining this to the accountant as most farmers in this area aren't likely to be buying kit like this.

Thanks for the advice, watched the LTT video before I placed the order.

We put it down as 'rapid prototyping and part production' for my Ultimaker at work! Do let us know how you get on, as I'm super interested in with one of these or the resin units!
