Yeah I saw that on Gamers Nexus the other day. Looks like a solid cooler, so long as it stays at that lower ~$28 (or GBP equivalent) cost.

Mostly this is just ITX/USFF teething trouble for me - I’m going from full ATX in a big ol’ tower to really quite tiny, and I haven’t had to worry about stuff like RAM clearance, cooler height, TDP, etc in a long time!

Definitely worth asking your doctor about something like allopurinol, it does help keep it in check. I can’t remember what it’s called but there are also prescription medications you can take to help get rid of an attack - although the side effects made me quite ill, so I can’t take it. Ibuprofen mostly works, but after a couple of days it absolutely destroys my guts… :sigh:

    Replacement SSD arrive...

...the new one is a 1TB Ironwolf 125, the old one [and the other SATA SSD in the NAS] was a 960GB Ironwolf 110... and my QNAP NAS is not liking that disparity...

Lost a dear friend. And never knew...

When I was a kid we had this morning regimen. We all used to walk to middle school together. We were like 9, but safety in numbers and besides it was different times then. So, three brothers from round the corner would come to ours. My brother and I would then join them, then meet my cousin about 1/4 of the way. 50m later we would pick up another kid called Eugene, then head up Marion Rd and meet the boys from the estate (they had to walk miles) and our mate Steve. Then, about 30 strong, we would head to school driving every one nuts on the way. God we used to have such a laugh.

Any way, Steve was always pretty quiet. Nice bloke. Sadly like me he liked his drugs, but he never kicked the habit. He was made homeless in 2002, and lived with mum and my brother for a while. Unfortunately one night he set the curtain alight smoking crack out of the window so they told him he had to leave. Not much was known after that (I mean, he worked, was a chippy and worked with my brother) but we got news that he had passed away yesterday.

I know there ain't much love for "junkies" but he was far more than that to us. He was a mate.

RIP Steve. I hope you are at peace now.

Sorry to hear about that, mate. It’s never easy to hear news like that, no matter how far apart life may have taken you.

It’s all too easy to dehumanise people to the point that all you see is a dirty smackhead lying in the street. Every homeless person, or drunk, or drug addict, etc, is someone’s friend or relative.

There are a lot of factors involved but, broadly speaking, a fair chunk of the population is only a few steps away from becoming homeless.

The wife ordered a new phone for an upgrade, went for a Pixel 8 Pro in the mint green. Managed to confuse the guy she was talking to when she didn't want it in the standard colour (Black/ Dark Grey I think). Package arrived today its the non-Pro version of the Pixel 8.
So, now I have to organise the return and find a new deal for a mint green Pixel 8 Pro as she no longer trusts carphone warehouse/ Vodafone or herself.

I have to admit that I have never had any issues going through them on upgrades, same with my wife. The only reason that I haven't done things that way recently is that it was easier to get my corporate discount setup and working with O2 if I did everything direct with them.

Boiler woes on a rental, £240 to keep it limping on. Eeking out the inevitable but better start looking at new boilers. Meh

The boiler is your landlord’s responsibility.

I am the landlord. It’s one of my rental properties.

So the lovely firm mattress arrived.

    Goldilocks thinks it's too firm.
Goldilocks has had me lay on all of the mattresses everywhere ever made.
Goldilocks chose this one after trying it several times and nearly falling asleep in the shop.

On the plus side I got out of bed without having to unfurl myself carefully as I put muscles and bones back into position.

Also, you can make a firm bed better, you can't do anything with a soft bed.

Edit: Old topper added. Goldilocks is happy which means I can be happy.

The dog is screeching while pooping, at the vets in half an hour. Hope it’s nothing serious (expensive) :wallbash:

I have to take my motorbike down a grass verge at the side of the drive to get out. After it’s been ****ing bollocking it down for about… oh, I don’t know… three months solid, that grass verge is now basically a track of thick mud.

Guess what it’s doing again this morning, right as I’m about to leave for work? Just for a change, it’s ****ing raining again

You do get used to this if you ride all year round, but good ****ing god it gets miserable after this long.

Yup, after a year of commuting on a motorbike, I jacked it in, just wasn't worth it, no way to enjoy a bike, very little benefits over a small car, summer was bad, too hot, winter was bad, too cold and the rest of the year too wet, there was a tiny window when it was just OK, decided they are best left for recreation.

Pain in arm worsening and spreading in severity across my shoulder blade and left hip. Two visits to the Drs and upped the dose, then went back today and switched to something else.

I’m just hoping it kills the pain, because it’s getting pretty damn unbearable. I’ve booked an appointment with a private neuropathic pain specialist, I’m hoping they’ll able to help.

Considered changing my username, then thought, 'Isaac Hunt' might be misunderstood...
