Right, ive got my computer now, and im wandering if leaving it on 24/7 all the time is damaging anything?
no, its fine. keep an eye on temps for the first few days. I've got a watercooled setup that runs 24/7. It might not be too good for your hard disks if there is constant activity. you can set them to power down after a certain amount of inactivity in control panel > power options., or something like that.
The only bad thing is in order to keep it cool you up your fan speeds a bit, which sucks if the computer is in the same room as you - it gets a bit hard to sleep.
Loudness dont really matter to me, seen as i have headphones for my radio i dont hear that much, is tehre anyway i can change my fan speeds from windows?
Not that I know of. But you could always use one of Bit-techs many articles on fan-controllers and make one . Or buy one, whatever suits your fancy...
Will all hdd's power down? Some of the ones I've used before (ie wd) dont seem to want to.... Sunbeam to a good reobus, gives a colour change (red-blue) at 7v and the fans switch all the way down to 0v (and then click off) which quite a few dont....
Not hard at all... theres plenty of guides around... Probably the easiest is fan switching (ie on/off or 7/12v switching)
Google for a program called Speed Fan. That will let you change fan speeds form windows. If it works the same on an A7N8X-x as it does on an A7N8X dlx then you will onyl be able to adjust one of the fans running off the mobo headers. The other two fans can be controlled by setting them to slow down in the bios. Oh, and I can never get my Maxtor drives to power down. Its probably becasue they're being used my Kazaa or something else
powering hard drives down is dangerous IMO... I have 2 pcs running 24/7 and neither have problems with stability.
My server runs 24/7 and its fine. I just turn all the case fans cept for the rear exhaust off when it not being used much. CPU fans goes to 7v and it sits happily ideling at ~40oC
