HAHA I like this quote from that page..."If you overdrive an LED brutally, it'll still end up as a friode, but it will in the interim briefly function as an SED, or Smoke Emitting Diode."
Aye, watch them things, at school i decided it would be amusing to bung 24V DC direct onto the legs of a LED, i still got the small scar from where the burning hot liquid plastic landed on my arm also set the firealarm off (well the PSU did) Oh the joy of youth .....
everytime i see i_h8clowns' avatar i get nightmares IT was one scary movie when you watch it at 13! lol I'm 22 now, and it still scares the living daylights out of me
Beep Beep, Richie.... Anyone know how many blue LED's would be required to get a similar effect? Dan mentions in the article that you'd need less, due to the way the eye works (which is good, considering the cost of blue LEDs).
I think it will be quite expensive to build something like that if you don't have any spare LEDs laying around. It would be better to buy a cold cathode ! ..don't know, my opinion
>considering the cost of blue LEDs How much should you pay for blue LEDs (give prices and the related luminosity)? I got some 100 mcd blue LEDs from farnell for 28p each (order of 25+) when I ordered it for a group of people. I think they're quite bright enough for my uses (keyboard lights and for GPO connections) but they'd never work for lighting a case (my primary PC is blue LED lit at a stupid expense of something like £20)
I was on a site that literally had rolls of 1600 Mcd bloo leds, for like $0.05 a piece. I think I still have their site in my favourites, lemme check: Nope, but it was this site that sold surplus electronics of all sorts. It had these things called goldpacks that had a bit of everything in them...
Actually human eye sensitivity peaks at yellow and drops off towards the red and violet ends of the spectrum.
I picked up a whole pot full of blue LEDs at the local surplus store. Turns out, they are designed to replace your car windshield wipers. And they are 12 volt. Neat part is they are really bright and have a difuser. I just need to find a use for them.
