Anyone heard this? I was on Radio 1 earlier, and to be totally honest. ITS ABSOLUTELY PANTS. Awful singing on it, I don't know how half of these people can call themselfes "Musicians" *shakes head in pity*
I don't think it's all that bad, being a remake it will always be compared with the original. The cover by Stock Aitkin and Waterman bands (Kylie, Jason, Sonia, etc) was far worse. At least this version is trying to sound a bit different. And at the end of the day it is for charity so people should buy it anyway.
While I'm fully in support of the cause I think the song is absolutely terrible. They could have done much much better.
The original was ok, but this is complete crap. The bit where someone is rapping WTF is that all about! There are some great singers about and only a small few of them were part of this. It's a shame really, it could have been quite good. Although they probably should have taken a risk and done something new. Otherwise everyone is going to compare it to the original - which a vast majority of people remember. The original had a huge concert which a gave a brilliant feel good vibe and made the song even more popular, so theres' no way this was ever going to compare.
im sorry but i didnt think that they would ever be betther than the original and when i heard it today i was right
Live aid (the concert) actually came a year after Band aid (the single) and the live version was rubbish compared to the original single as most of the performers kept forgetting their lines.
@Chairboy Well I was only 4 when it happened! Aren't the proceeds going to muslims, who last I heard don't actually celebrate Christmas. Seems like a silly song to be singing to raise money for people who don't have anything to do with the actual lyrics.
I'm not entirely sure what you guys are all so surprised about... They've managed to take a shite song and do a shite version of it? Quelle Surprise! As good as the (original) cause may have been, it doesn't mean the song wasn't awful... Sam
Better get ready to hear it a million, squillion times. Oh my head! and yes, that number is scientifically accurate....
Nah, just do as I do: Don't listen to crap radio stations that are likely to play it Don't even attempt Christmas shopping without a walkman Easily avoided Sam
Mark Thomas put it perfectly at his show in London last night.... (it was something like) Great, the welfare of a nation is in the hands of Will Young and Rachel Stevens.... I can't help but feel the sentiment is all wrong this time round - i mean, the first time, the whole country was united in this cause, now it just seems like an afterthought. People will go out and buy the single (making themselves feel better about themselves in the process) without actually thinking about the cause it's promoting. I guess you could call it "automatic alms" i guess. We're all too quick these days jus to hand over money without understanding or caring about who we're helping and why. 'Band Aid 20' just comes across as a effective way of cashing in on the way we treat charity and good causes in the UK at the moment. I just wish that we could all re-familiarise ourselves with the problems going on, rather than just slinging some cash in a bucket and hoping it'll all go away....
The original was more "for the cause" I think this time round most of the "artists" are doing it for the publicity.
Apparently they are mainly Christians but celebrate Christmas in January - as Michael Burke (sp?) said on Have I Got News For You.... So they do know it's Christmas, but may argue that we don't.... or something? Good Cause. Bad Song. This may be the answer.
i haven't heard it. i somehow managed to avoid it. it's like how i also managed to avoid the first popstars single by hearsay. i'm so jammy *listens to some smashing pumpkins*
I finally heard it for the first time last night... and now I know what everyone is going on about. It's complete ****, but it'll shift by the bucket load.
