Hi all, This question is linked with my thread about RGB leds in electronics. I want to create some funky light stuff, like some products of the company 'mathmos'. Now, I have this plastic 'spa' Rolling Bottle's. A pretty cool shape. Its just plain plastic like your average water bottle. But since its clear (but slightly blue colored) I would like to gie it a ' frosted ' effect, so you can't see the content and to get a more 'even' glow. How would I best do this? Spraypaint it white? Outside? Inside? ... Any other idea's? Thanks L
You could try sanding it, also I was trying to take paint off my cell phone covers so I put it in nail polish remover, it was only in for a minute and it made the screen "foggy" permanentaly, you could try that but it might take a lot for a whole water bottle.
There's a spray paint product that gives an etched effect... Should be able to find it in most home improvement stores.
Really rough paper - 80 grit or so - will just scratch heck out of your plastic. I've gotten good results w/ quite fine paper - 600 grit, in my case - and a bit of elbow grease & patience. Depends on the plastic, of course. Try various grits of paper on some corner of your plastic.
The stuff Stormtrooper is talking about is great i've used it on plexiglass and it's better than sanding + you can remove it with paint thinner. Here's a plexi piece that i've done both sides with. Btw it's called glass frost
Hi all, I've thought about sending, but its a water bottle.. its very thin and has alot of little curves.. I don't think I would get an 'even' effect. I'm going to look for that "glass frost" spray paint! Thanks very much! L
I used red frost paint on an old project. The stuff works great, they also have translusent paint fyi. I found the paint at michaels (craft store) its primary use is for stained glass work (well the fake kind). JEEVES
Try sandblasting with fine sand. Or even better: Glassblasting. I tried this on some plexi and it works great.
it'll be frosting or etching spray you need for the kind of effect your wanting and maybe with some of the translucent paint on the inside to give a stronger glow
