News Microsoft: "Xbox 360 beats PS3 in Europe"

Microsoft has again thrown the gauntlet down at Sony, claiming to have a stronger market presence in Europe than the PS3.

 

I have a question. Other than stock holders, who cares?

I know way more people that own PS3s, but I don't know many 12 year olds, so that might be the problem.

 

Whereas I know only 1 person who owns a PS3, and he looks like a 12 year old.

 

So that Killzone 2 looks pretty good. I wish it were on PC

 

I'm pretty sure it is only kids that are bothered about stuff like this, kids or immature 'adults'. I'd say because most adults would be able to afford the consoles they like, at least the ones who are properly into gaming, those that aren't aren't bothered about what console sells more anyway.

Kids and fanboys make the fuss most probably because they can only afford one of consoles, and so they have to justify their purchase by slating the console they don't have.

Anyone who's serious has a PC anyway. If a game is multiplatform I will get it on the PC, if not I'll get it on the console with the better graphics (wouldn't get a game on wii over PS3 for example).

 

The 360 is only about 1.5m ahead... who cares...it looks worse for Microsoft when you look at the fact the PS3 is a year younger.

 

i can't see why it should matter to people how much something has sold. i hate it when people are so insecure about their own purchase that they have to defend it to the point of irrationality. usually by quoting stuff like this.

besides, i often wonder just how many of the sales for the 360 have been because people have needed a replacement. i think the 360 is an excellent console (just like the ps3 and wii are) but it's build quality is terrible -- i've bought three myself since 2005 and i bet i'm not the only one. surely that'd beef these figures up just a tad?

also: the only reason i pick up the majority of my games for the 360 is because i'm a slag for gamerscore

 

From what i've heard recently, in the UK particularly the PS3 isn't doing very well. But in other EU countries they do a lot better.

From my group of friends (~28-35 years old) and my brothers group of friends (~20 years old) i know of:
3 people with a PS3 (one of those for blu-ray only)
12 people with 360's
at least 8 with Wii's

 

All MS done was tie a rope to the barometer, chuck it off a building and saw the length of the rope. Nothing of good there.

Well it does matter how many PS3's, 360's etc there are in the market. If the PS3 is unpopular in one country you can expect fewer games or later release dates, which pisses off people who did buy one and puts off people who might buy one.

Considering the economy is not its best, the 360's (i.e. the 60GB SKU's) initial cost is much cheaper (especially with the mid-annual price cuts), the 360 had an entire year by itself and having multiple SKUs (the one I'm trying to hit upon is the barebone Arcade model), it's hard to see how the 360 couldn't be ahead.

 

the most contradictory, and financially unaware comment i think i've ever read.
i play games every single day and still only own a ps2 (in the console world) i think generally speaking, even TRUE GAMERS have slightly more pressing concerns for their money - especially at the moment
