Gaming The Secret of Monkey Island: SE Review

Richard has never played any of the Monkey Island games before, so seeing as Lucasarts has just released a graphical remake of the original game we thought we'd remedy that. Is Monkey Island still a genre-defining classic by today's standards?

 

An 8/10, eh? I hope you realise this means war.

Or maybe not. It's not like X-Com: Terror from the Deep was any good either.

Its been a long time since i've played this so i'm looking forward to it.

Joe i presume you've played it and your score would have been a 10? Good review bindi, much easier than gfx card testing....

 

i'm playing this on my tablet lately, that makes it a perfect experience. So much less cluterred then a laptop!

 

I have played it and I'll be blogging about it in the near future, rest assured.

 

As much as it shames me, I've never played any of the series either. I'll definitely have to pick this up in the near future, I've got to see what all the fuss is about!

 

8/10 or not, I'm still getting it.
Now, how about a reworking of "Day of the Tentacle" .... (yes, Monkey Island is good, but DotT is still one of my all-time favourites)

 

i started Monkey Island with Escape from Monkey Island, which i loved. so i'll be picking this up in a few daysl.

how about MI 2 and 3? will they get a remake? it'd be great to have all monkey island games in one art style.

 

According to Steam, only 7 hours to go

July is turning out to be one of the awsomest months this year: a veritable glut of Lucasarts adventuriness. I'm so giddy, I may have to go and lie down

 

At least Lucasarts didn't add more Dewbacks and fancier explosions!

It looks bloody awful! And I'm talking about the 'updated' flash-a-like version..! Do yourself a favour and play it with the original graphics and immerse yourself in a true classic.

As soon as I get back to Austria and I have my computer up and running again [arrives on Friday after shipping it from Bath to Vienna] I'll have to make a couple of purchases on Steam. Namely: Monkey Island: SE and both Indy games.

 

Haven't played the earlier ones, and won't play this either. Still good to see it doesn't get 10/10 just from the nostalgic value to some.

 

£6.99 - how could I say no?

Although I might wait until Steam does a big Lucasarts pack. Actually, wasn't MI1 made by Lucasfilm?

 

Completed it today, thought it was great. I've not played the first 2 monkey islands properly (only round a mates).

 

Did some cheeky downloading of Tales of Monkey Island to check it out, liked and will buy come pay day. And waiting for Steam to finish downloading this! I imagine LucasArts will be making some serious moolah this month!

 

Anyone had any problems running it?

Tales of monkey island worked fine, but this one won't run on my main pc (blank black screen and hangs) or my laptop (MISE.exe has encountered a problem...)

 

You need the latest DirectX from MS, I know that much.

 

Ahh this brings back the foggy memories of the Amiga.
