Not an issue we've encountered with any of the Vertex 3 versions we've tested. I'll ask OCZ for a comment.

I agree! The M4 offers far better value for money, and most users won't be able to tell the difference between the speeds outside of benchmarking.

Another win for Crucial it seems.

Are SSD ever going to be affordable?

Lol...they just dont want to come down in price, do they?...must still be too many vested interests in mechanical devices.

Given OCZ's stability problems with some other their other ssd's, I honestly would avoid them at least till they can clear these issues up

My 120 gig version should arrive today. Boy I hope I don't regret it. £200 is a huge chunk of change for a bleeding harddisk. Already kinda regret it :(

Well hopefully when its melting my face with its speed I won't care.

The last graph on pages 2 and 3 have black number data, rather than all the previous charts white numbering. Also, I get a red x with Overall 88.8888888889% within the scores on the last page.

Hmmm.. interesting though. Crucial's M4 certainly looks tempting.

Yeah, I get 88.8888888889% too. One of Bit-Tech's more unusual scores ;)

Just checking my math, but SSD's in the near future seem to be reaching the max data rate of SATA 6Gb/s (750MB/s) in a rapid fashion. The vertex 3 is running at 500MB/s+ on the 1024kb read/write and with each generation getting much higher read/write speeds than the prior it seems to be only until the middle of next year or the end of 2012 that we will have completely maxed SATA 6Gb/s.

I am now wondering how the manufacturers will conform to this or if they will find a way around it?

Doesn't look to be just OCZ issue, would appear that the Corsair Force3s with the same controller are having issues. Maybe hold back a little while and see what happens?

    VALUE - 21/25

Excuse me but that was one nasty hit in the head for sure.

Value is somewhere around 2. 400 £? Really is 400 £ such good value for 240GB?! Credit-crunch, economic downturn? What credit crunch, what economic downturn!

Couldn't care less about SSDs. Just to point out that OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G costs 50 Pounds less, with slightly better transfer rates.

That's a bit like asking if graphics cards are ever going to become affordable. SSDs are already affordable (for a given value of affordable), but the best ones are bloody expensive. In the same way, you can pick up a pretty good graphics card for £100-150, but a top of the range is going to be £££.
It is a good question for the BT boys though: Are there any SSDs that are worth buying that cost less than £100?

Well it depends what you need. You can pick up a 60GB OCZ Agility 3, which also uses Sandforce 2281 but with slightly slower NAND I believe, for £95, or if write speeds aren't too important you can get a 64GB Crucial M4 for about £90. Both would make an awesome system disk.

Actually, it reads value is 21 out of 35 (thirty-five).... and yes, I agree with the review. I think that's a fair representation of the value of this drive. Just because it's out of the reach of the pockets of Joe Average, that doesn't make it poor value - because 'value' isn't the same as cost.

By the same token, it's not as good value as the M4 offering from Crucial... but that's the price you pay for ultimate speed.
