    Passive usually implies no amplification (the amp is what makes it active instead of passive).
    So its a active subwoofer that is rated at 30w, not passive at all.

    Passive doesn't mean no amplification, it just means the unit needs an external amp.
    My guess is the amp is in the bar.

    No, it's a passive subwoofer driven by a 30W external amplifier (which is inside the soundbar, along with the main 30W amplifier.) At least, that's what Razer claims - and it is their product, after all, so I'd say they know better than we what's in the thing...
