As good as this stuff, may be. I would say, going by current DDR4 prices, that you are going to have to sell your soul to the devil to afford it.

 

Sure, but hopefully 16GB DIMMs will help bring down the price of 8GB DIMMs

 

Doubt we'll be seeing much if any change until DDR4 hits the consumer level products in Skylake. Even then, it won't be a lightning transition as Skylake apparently will support both DDR3 and DDR4.

Good to see some 16GB DIMMs out and about at least. The higher capacity one of the key seeking points for DDR4 IMO. Being able to put 32GB into an ITX package presents a lot of opportunities, shame it's only X99 so far, meaning that there's only that ASrock option in that form factor.

 

the cost parrity between DDR3 and DDR4 isn't so bad as t was before. Hopefully by Skylake we will be closer to cost parity. While DDR3 options will exist with Skylake I don't expect them to be the norm. I think that many looking to move to skylake will be from the 2500k/2600k and will be bugdeting a full upgrade.

 

I expect DDR4 to be fully mainstream next year with AMD's Zen platform supporting it too as a standard.

 

128 GB high speed DDR4? Somewhere a ROG RamDisk just had an accident in its trousers...

 

Asrock has a X99 ITX board in the works.

 

I was just feeling chuffed that my dual X5660 lab/playtoy box just got the upgrade to 36GB. Seems a bit dull now by comparison

 

Will be nice in a few years when it is cheap enough for mortals. I am more concerned with graphics cards at the moment. I wanna play games in 4k at 60fps without worrying about sli compatibility. Need faster cards.

I remember building hundreds (if not thousands) of boxes in the late 90's when 128MB system memory was the norm.

 

8GB is plenty for me.
128GB would cost a fortune.

 

Those timings are pretty bad. Could be worse, but still pretty bad. I can't believe people are still buying into this.

 

Timings make no difference in real world performance... only benchmarking. I can't believe people still believe that it makes *that* much of a difference.

It's clearly the capacity that matters in these scenarios, not the timings.

Just look at servers with their HUGE amounts of RAM. They often run at DDR3-1333MHz with C15 timings.

 

I never said it made a huge difference. Regardless, you can say the same about the frequency. They're advertising that this RAM is the world's fastest, and though I haven't checked all DDR4 modules out there, it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't. I'm merely complaining that it's probably false advertisement and advertising something that doesn't really matter. Also, depending on how many channels you have, the total speed of your RAM does make a difference outside of benchmarks.

That's not a valid comparison. Servers (should) have ECC memory and some have buffered memory. Memory in servers is designed intentionally for reliability, not performance.

 

Well, it is the first and only 128GB kit, so they can happily claim it as the fastest.

 

Compared to what?

You can't just look at the timings in isolation, these sticks would be the equivalent of stick running at 1,400MHz CL8-8-8-18.

EDIT: And you're right when you say these are not the fastest DDR4, but AFAIK they are the fastest at that capacity, I.e you can get DDR4 3,200MHz in 4x4GB.
