I wonder what adobe thinks of these manoeuvres. Will they be happy that they will eventually be able to stop supporting Flash, or will they be annoyed at the loss of sales of Flash development tools (assuming adobe sells such things)

Its a minor point but google are switching off 1% which equates to millions of users, so not really a small number

It's a small number of their overall users - one one-hundredth of the desktop stable userbase, not counting Android users and what have you, in fact - but not a small number in absolute terms, no.

Adobe's already reworked the Flash development tools to generate HTML5 content as well and removed Flash from the name.
Or as Wikipedia would say: "Adobe Animate (formerly Adobe Flash Professional)"

And apparently they've spent a LOT of money over the last few years getting HTML5 support advanced.

As long as they can still sell multimedia authoring tools, they're happy.

Wot 'e said, with the added snippet of information that despite Flash being OMGDIEALREADY status Adobe's revenue increased by 23 per cent in the last quarter over the same period the year before and leading to a 22 percent revenue boost for the financial year 2016 compared to 2015. So, yeah, Adobe ain't hurtin' here.
