    Doesn't Unity 5 kinda suck performance-wise though?

Why don't they get rid of the idiot who came up with the Crysis 2 and 3 storylines? There's your main problem right there.

Really? I thought Unity being able to scale across platforms would make it pretty flexible. But then again, it could be that to get the same fidelity using Unity means using higher end hardware than using CryEngine, id Tech, UE, ... :worried:

Less "Can it run Crysis?" and more "Can it break even?"

Sorry, I know, but I felt compelled.

Doesn't really matter when they sell. Same as COD/BF. They should have hust churned 'em out with more multiplayer + microtransactions and of that sort of crap (that was Warface I suppose). Get your cash flow sorted THEN start experimenting.

Even porting Crysis 1 to Crytek's latest engine would have sold a BAZILLION copies, and that's "easy" in comparison to designing a whole new game + story etc considering they already have the engine + experts in house. Crysis 1 in DX12 with the latest fancy-pants eye candy would be phenomenal.

Games studios like this an Roberts Space Industries and Crytek would be great business case studies on how to be gifted a fantastic foundation, then build your house out of straw and decide to light a fire because it's cold. :wallbash: Basic business tells you to study your cash flow and focus on delivering before you take on the world.

Damn if I had the money! I'd have bought the STALKER and Crytek IP.

I agree - I would preorder the shizzle out of that.
Still hoping CIG will deliver, but it's not as though things are running frictionlessly.

GSC? I would think it's possible to license it. Everything has a price. Find a studio, and could you Kickstarter it? I wonder.

Well, in fairness, RSI, don't have a cash flow problem, pulling in more than $35m per year. They are basically making the game for free.

    LOL.
Unity 5 is fantastic, especially the latest version. Cryengine is pants in comparison when comes to performance.

See some of the Unity 5.5 real rendering videos on single cards.... much better quality and better perf.

Therein lies the rub. Crysis 2 sold ok, Crysis 3 sold terribly.

When EA and the press are talking about sales in the hundreds of thousands instead of millions for a supposedly flagship title then you know it's all gone wrong.

Well Star Citizen/CIG have bailed from CryEngine to Amazon's Lumberyard [which is still technically CryEngine as IIRC Amazon licensed some or all of it off CryTek]

It's not a big a leap as it sounds, they just moved from one heavily modded version of cryengine to another... still doesn't exactly scream 'we have faith in crytek' imo...
