Stealing a prototype must rate in the top 10 dumbest things to steal, it's not like it can be used or copied without being noticed.

They may not care though.. Say it's a small-time competitor who nicked Valerie: they could reverse-engineer the screen mechanism in far less time than it took Razer to engineer it in the first place and ruin Razer's competitive edge.

And let's be honest, China has no problems stealing other people's IP...

They obviously omitted a Kensington lock then?

Not that a Kensington lock would slow anybody down all that much...

EDIT: Wait, this one's even better - opened in about three seconds with rolled up cardboard and in a motion that means it looks exactly like you're using a key!

Bugger! It may have at least been a deterrent if one was on. We may never know.

They're not really mean to deter proper criminals, just prevent someone casually nicking something in plain sight. I suspect it could have done the trick in this case, as I'm going to take a punt and assume that it was casually yoinked as they were packing away

It also shows that the Valerie laptop is indeed portable.

I must say it would be a genius piece of advertising in the end if this were the case. Similar to when one of Gary Powell (Apple software engineer) "accidentally" left the iPhone 4 prototype at a bar. Simple mistake? Or brilliant marketing?

Apparently, the word on Razer's FB page is now that two "Valerie" prototypes have been nicked. One under each arm?
