Apple declares they're not using Imagination Technologies's wares
    Imagination Technologies's shares tank
    Apple buys Imagination Technologies.

That's typically how this kinda thing pans out... right?

That's what I thought but I'm being strongly told by some analysts that Apple are developing its own GPU and just don't need it any more. It could have bought IMG for pocket change even when its shares were highest.

I guessed Apple would buy IMG, use PowerVR, and tell ARM that it wants free architecture license in exchange for taking MIPS 'off the market'. ARM can potentially win big(ger) in the IoT era with no MIPS competitor, so it's a potential win win. But apparently the world's biggest company doesn't give a **** about ARM licensing fees nor wants the MIPS complication.
