Seems reasonable really: the 6700K is two years old now, and will shortly be two generations behind the (soon-to-be) current Coffee Lake, so another few months on the market seems perfectly fair.

Just for interest, how does the shelf-life of the 6700K compare to previous generations, like the i7 4770K?

For any other business, this would mean big price cuts, but oh no, this is the PC market, where prices will now actually go up for a discontinued product and stay up.

I bet the 6700K will still be £320+ two years from now...

What a thoroughly dysfunctional market we have when it comes to PC components.

But even if they were still in stock at retailers, who would buy one new?

I got sick of intel rising processor and temperature costs.

Built my first ever AMD a few weeks ago.

For me the move to Piezen was scary. I've only ever owned intel processors. I only considered buying AMD once before when they were faster and just as I was about to... Intel released core duo.

A few weeks I pulled the trigger on a piezen 1700. Built it just over a week ago. Got sick of intel using thermal paste on IHS. Sick of intel monopoly. Funny to see their panic releases...

It sure is funny to see their panic releases. However, it is more funny to see press kiss their ass by trying to sell it in the review as a good chip...

    I feel out-dates with a 2nd gen i5 :S
It's weird to think of sky lake being discontinued on that basis but I guess that's just how it works.
I'm going to wait till this system fails and look at a totally new one (open to AMD even!) when it does, as every time I have though about upgrading to the current gen, people tell me the benefits would be marginal for the cost.
