Living in a small village G-Fast is likely the best we can hope for and likely not much use, as far as speeding things up is concerned, as we are probably too far from the green box to see any great benefit. FTTP here? No chance, just like Virgin cable.

I expect a high correlation of installation with areas already covered by Virgin, Hyperoptic, Gigaclear, etc.

My mother's village is like that. Thankfully sky put in some fibre lines so she's off of the 6m (but really about 2) for £50 a month.

I live in a rural area too, and BT have just installed FTTP along the telephone poles - so it is feasible. The real downside, though, is with FTTP being the only alternative to ADSL, the cost is comparatively expensive: a tenner or so a month for 2-3meg ADSL or £40-50 a month for 50+meg. I'd love to have the extra bandwidth, but just can't justify it at that price.

    (that's a link if others don't know)

Margaret Thatcher screwed us so much with not allowing bt to install FTTP in 1990s if she had not blocked it we would of been ahead of other places in the world

That story is glossing over a lot of the downsides and ignoring the fact that it's not the copper laid in the 90's onwards that causes the problems with xDSL, it's all the sh|t from the preceding 100 years
