    Looks like a great way to produce bulk nanowires, but you still need a way to actually lay those nanowires into a useful structure (same way a big block of Silicon is not a CPU, patterning is the hard part).
    There's that whole "Optane" thing that seems to have enough demand to sell every chip produced...

    If only Optane was phase-change memory, you'd have a point. To quote Wikipedia: 'Intel has stated that 3D XPoint does not use a phase-change or memristor technology.' (It does go on to say 'although this is disputed by independent reviewers,' but if Intel says it ain't PCM that's good enough for me.)

    Yeah, Intel and Micron can claim that the 3D xPoint is totally-not-PCM, but if it walks like an Ovonic Memory Switch, looks like an Ovonic Memory Switch, quacks like an Ovonic Memory Switch, came from a company owning the IP to the Ovonic Memory Switch, and is fabricated on the obtuse Chalcogenide process, I'm going to call it an Ovonic Memory Switch.
