Yeah, and the mental 4870 sucks more power than Nvidia's solutions. In the single and the double. All these eggheads talk about new technology, BUT the OLD nvivida technology kicks the crap out of the newest ATI core.
Yes, that's right, as soon as DDR5 is taken out of the equation, the 4850 gets compared to the "old, tired, renamed, used again, what do they call it now" GTX9800 series.. and it's various flavors.
What I would be asking as a redfan is why the highest knocked down core of ATI gets spanked by years old NVidia tech. I'd be asking that a lot.
Then you have the power consumption complaint coupled with the "brute force" lines....
Problem is 4870 eats more power than the 260, eats a LOT MORE in idle, in aero desktop - and is within a mere couple in 3d, and gets HOT AS HECK - because in order for ATI to be competitive at all, they had to crank the wizz out of their cores - and even though smaller - they are scorching hot - as the burn marks on the fingers do prove.
