Hi Fraklin,
Sorry for the late reply to your message. Your message was posted here at a point in time I was having sporadic network access, and I don't recall seeing a notification concerning you contacting me.
For what it's worth, the upgrade from the T2300 to the T7200 did improve the speed by quite a bit. In the work I do, the single threaded performance is on par with the Xeon 5000 series systems I work with (but remember, that's single threaded).
I have not tried overclocking the CPU, I believe I'm near the upper limit of what the heat sink and fan can handle as is, so I have not done any overclocking experiments. I'm not sure if my BIOS is still current, but id does not expose any overclocking options. It may be possible to hack the XPS BIOS from the m170 if it has overclocking features, but that is a risky proposition. I believe there is software to overclock the CPU from the OS, but I have not used it myself.

Saw your post from this summer about upgrading your 9400 from a T2300 to a T7200. I have a 9400 with a T2400 and was planning on at least the T2700. I edit hi defiition video and processor speed is life. Can you say how much faster the T7200 would be? Can you/did you overclock? I have the most recent bios from Dell which is at least two years old. thankx! Hawkeye
