Energy Blue Windows XP Theme Disappears from the Interweb?

My school's computer lab just got a whole bunch of new PCs; naturally, I want to get rid of the terrible stock Windows XP theme with the much sleeker, snazzier Energy Blue theme that ships with MCE; however, it seems to have dissappeared from the face of the earth; Cnet doesnt carry it now for some reason. Is a conspiracy afoot?

quack 18th Nov 2005 18:26

It's called Royale.

Tim S 18th Nov 2005 18:28

Royale rocks. :D

Tomm 18th Nov 2005 18:32

Noes too bright! Why can't Microsoft make beautiful products like Apple :p

RotoSequence 18th Nov 2005 21:24

Theres a difference; that royale theme requires some tweaking to make function properly (and Im too lazy for that tbh ;)). There was a version that required no adjustment available for download, but it seems to have dissappeared. Forgot that its called Royale? Forgot I have not; it is technically labeled Energy Blue :p

Harrison 19th Nov 2005 04:41

I just downloaded the one linked to in this thread and it worked fine for me, no adjusting or anything. I never knew how much I like this look!

Are there more themes to download on the Microsoft web? I cant find anything... :waah:

Smilodon 19th Nov 2005 10:34

what's so great about royale? it still have that nasty blue color. The wallpaper looks better than the original... it still sucks, though...

anyone know where to get the longhorn (vista) slate theme? (i know windowblinds or style XP have it, but i don't need more programs running in the background, really.

I second that...

/me wants Vista :eyebrow:

ajack 19th Nov 2005 11:06

So use the UXTheme.dll crack, then you can use any theme you want natively, without the need for third party software.

Damn, another great download, thanks for the link! :thumb:

quack 19th Nov 2005 15:55

Well since Energy Blue has never been released outside of MCE 2005 I'm not surprised Cnet don't carry it any more. It'd be illegal. Royale was officially released.

What exactly needs tweaking in Royale anyway?

That's just like, your opinion, man. But seriously, my opinion is that this Royale theme looks like it's been designed by a 4 year old.

Any "Visual Style" theme works with the cracked uxtheme.dll patch. You just download the folder and copy it to The Windows\Resources\Themes folder. You select from Display Properties as always.

Deviantart.com is a good source.

A good Longhorn/Vista Visual Styles by kol (Studiotwentyeight) can be downloaded here.

TheoGeo 19th Nov 2005 19:30

it just looks like sum1 has laminated the original xp theme

i like the one ive got, nice and simple and comes in a variety of colours its called CodeOpusC or something
tbh, ive never got bored of it and cant stand the bold garish ones anymore

edit: find it here

quack 19th Nov 2005 19:35

I use CodeOpus Blue myself. :)

maybe I am wrong, but doesnt this theme missing the .Theme file? I mean that I´ve extracted all the files to Win\Resources\Themes, but I still cant chose it from the Display properties.

I´ve installed the Neowin Multipatcher

*EDIT:Solved:

I simply edited one of the existing .theme files to fit the VistaXP :thumb: *

Both WinBlinds (wblind.dll) and Style XP (=the uxtheme.dll crack) are "running in the background" same as the official uxtheme.dll, it's an "either/or", not "as-well-as". (There is a claim WinBlinds takes less memory).

Only way to reduce loss is to turn Theme Service off & use Classic. ;)

Hazardous 20th Nov 2005 16:00

Have any of ya tried the Crytal XP Universal Brico Packs then?

They're all damned nice IMO :cooldude:

Nexxo 20th Nov 2005 16:14

Yes, they are well pimp. :cooldude:

Cheers Nexxo, been using v1.4 for months now, didnt realise they were up to 2.0 already

Lazlow 21st Nov 2005 09:44

Bah! And there I was trying to feel happy with the original XP theme. I use Kol's Tiger theme for my media server, but on my day-to-day laptop I've stuck with the original, as I didn't want to spend hours choosing a new theme - and now this pops up! The Royale theme is nice, but I'm going to have to browse deviantart again for an alternative...

cpemma 21st Nov 2005 18:24

Every few months I go trawling the net for a good theme, try a few, then go back to Classic. It's erm...classic.

Nexxo 21st Nov 2005 18:41

Currently, I use Luna Element.

ry@n 22nd Nov 2005 15:32

Anyone got anymore themes like the royale one that are soo simple to download and use?

Pretty much every Visual Style is.

ry@n 22nd Nov 2005 17:56

But i find with all thoses that have been posted i just get a zip file, anyone know any like the royale one?

Nexxo 22nd Nov 2005 19:17

Inside the .zip file you will find a folder with the name of the theme. You place this in the Windows\Resources\Themes folder. That's all there is to it --you can now select it in your Display Properties like any other Windows theme.

No other theme comes with an installer.

quack 22nd Nov 2005 19:18

You can probably unzip straight into the C:\Windows\Resources\Themes folder.

edit: Damn you Nexxo.

Firehed 22nd Nov 2005 20:46

Meh, Copperdeck for the win.

fatty 22nd Nov 2005 20:58

Meh Light Tube

ry@n 24th Nov 2005 16:17

I put the Light tube folder in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes with the other but it doesn't appear when i go into properties, themes.

westie 24th Nov 2005 17:01

Three possibilities,
  1. You've fouled up with the paths. Win\Resources\Themes should contain a file lighttube.theme (or similar) and a Folder called 'lighttube' (or to match *.theme) with a Shell and maybe other sub-folders under it.
  2. Some themes don't show on the Theme tab but can be picked from the Appearance tab under 'Windows & Buttons'.
  3. Something else.

Beware the ThemeXP site, most contain adware "* This author has generously allowed us to wrap this file to help keep our costs down. Click here for more information.", so make sure you have software to kill it without wiping the theme as well. :grr:
