He needs to run it dry or drain it once the light comes on, maybe his light is just coming on super early for some reason? Otherwise could be a really bad fuel map if he's got an aftermarket...

Does the exhaust smell petrol-ey? Check the air filter and that the choke is definitely off (check at the carb end, not the handle bar end or wherever it is - ie check the cable is actually working...
