Decades? Think of the current trend in GPU design - higher efficiency, lower power requirements etc... I'd be willing to bet that the next generation of xbox or playstation will target 4K gaming.

Given the resolution, I'd guess you can look at the 1440p scores and knock a third off the stated FPS.

The 290X might out-perform a 970 in some games but I don't think a vanilla 290 will beat a 970.

The 970 is faster, cooler, quieter and less hungry.

I wonder how much is "considerably" - 2:6 suggests tripling the read performance. The SATA3 bus will saturate at 750MB/s, won't it?

SSDs are already hitting 550MB/s.

The idea that graphics tech is lagging behind the high end monitor resolution is hardly new. It was years before a single GPU card was released that could handle 1600p.
