From the reviews I've seen, 290 only ever beats the 970 @4k and only in a couple of games. 970 beats the 290 in most circumstances and being newer, will make use of newer technologies and five better...

Check my sig for a link to where i modified an antec khuler 620 to include the Northbridge block my mobo had. I recon it's probably be enough considering neither the cpu or gpu are power hungry...
