i don't have the old hard drive anymore, i sold it when i replaced it with the SSD. i don't think i went through any warranty void stickers, but i dunno.

it's an HP DM4-1050ca, not one of those...

yes, they fail. i work in small business IT and i see on average one hard drive die every week. still, raid5 is probably sufficient. your 6TB should be 5TB, not 4TB.
