the lid on a PS1 had a gear on it that provided high friction, to make the lid open slowly when the button was pressed.

You can probably pick up a few of them for very cheap / free by asking...

the actuator power is undernieth the relay, theres a +v and a -v, which you would connect to 12v and 0v on your second PSU.

I dont see a problem with adding the top stop myself, just have a piece...
