Most certainly. Attachment is an emotional thing, but (like many emotions) it is functional.
Attachment is what keeps children engaged with the caregiver. It is a survival feature. It is also what makes them turn to the caregiver in times of need. For adults, it allows us to form sound relationships with a partner, to play nice in the social group and turn to them for help and support when needed.
