As a movie buff, I'd like to be objective and give this movie a fair chance, but seriously, how can it possibly be anything but awful? I think its only chance for salvation is to be SO loosely based on the game that it's actually nothing like it - only then might it just about stand up as a futuristic sci-fi action flick.

By the way, you can also look forward to:

Max Payne: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/06/29/max_payne_film/
Halo: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/06...lo_movie_news/
and
Hitman: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/06/15/diesel_hitman/

And if you think any of these might struggle to make back their 8-and-9-figure budgets, spare a thought for The Biggest Movie Flops Of All Time:

I don't think I've heard of a game-based movie doing too well. I liked FF:TSW but that was hardly based off of the Final Fantasy series in any way more than sharing the name (btw for those that care, advent children is apparently due out mid september!)

Weren't there plans for Far Cry getting movied as well?

WTF was Carmack thinking selling out.

I could write a better movie. There must be something in the water in CA cause they're all off their heads.

Actually, check the story for some updated info. OBVIOUSLY the people involved aren't going to admit that it's cack, but I'm an optimist, so *maybe* it might be OK...?

the first resident evil movie was pretty good, so dont write them all off cuz the majority flop.
its probably the best game-> movie conversion ive seen.

I liked it too, though if you took Milla out of it, what are you left with?

And I don't mean Michelle Rodriguez

Yea, that's the whole point of watching it and at least the RE game was directly related to the games, not just taking the name and doing what it wants.

Geoff, admit it, it's gonna be ******** and you're gonna struggle to find bits you enjoy. Unless you love the 1990s "all-action-fest-CG-banaza where they will try to fit in as many one liners as possible as americans save the world, again..." movie, which it's gonna be.

It's gonna be about as entertaining as watching a dog fart for 2 hours. Funny and kinda amusing at first but gets old very very quickly. Just like the Doom game actually.. so i spose that's the angle they were going for.

ZING!

My first instinct is to dismiss this as crap, but it sounds better than the original plotline (in addition to opening the gates of hell, the evil corporation also killed Doomguy's family) so I have some hopes for this. For comparison, let's see what else has come out this summer:

- Bewitched
- The Honeymooners
- Fantastic Four
- Monster-In-Law
- House of Wax
- The Longest Yard
- Herbie: Fully Loaded
- Sahara
- The Pacifier

I'm not sure it's valid to say the Doom movie will suck because of the plot. If you watch movies for the fascinating story, what are you doing watching Doom in the first place?

I think MaxPayne and Hitman would make great movies.
Although they wouldn't be all that different then Sin City or any other comic-book-ish movie.

For Doom:
As long as the movie doesn't start out with 15 minutes of walking around a military base filled with cloned scientists, the main character isn't alone, and starts out with a tiny handgun. Oh, and as long as the movie isn't 8 hours of shooting the same aliens over-and-over in new places, the movie will be better then the game.
(Don't get my wrong, Doom 1 and 2 were classics. Doom3 was the same old game, better graphics)

It will suck. Disregarding the "plot", just looking at the cast / director / writer these guys don't exactly scream "great movie". I expect it will be the usual dribble that normal comes from game remakes. I'm sure they spent most of the budget just getting the license.

I won't waste my cash going to see I'll wait for it to be on tv / dvd.

You spent $50 to go see a movie? oO

Doom 3 the Movie - It's going to suck.

Just like almost every other game/movie, and movie/game combination, and just like almost every comicbook/movie adaptation (though, sure, some of them are aweomse (Xmen, Batman, Spiderman), some of them sucked (Fab 4, Constantine (I believe that was based off a Manga, not sure) and I wasn't too pleased about Hellboy...)
