Melting iMac Mod
Do you own a melting Mac? Do your PowerBook temps threaten your manhood? Download a Temperature Monitor (http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html) for OSX and let us know if you could fry an egg on your G5.

If your temps threaten your manhood, PLEASE DON'T POST. Proceed directly to the thread about the mac mouse and look for the iBalls, because you need some.
![]() Anyhow...didn't they test this crap? Or did they think that honestly most people don't use a MOBILE computer in more than 25C heat?! That sits on your LAP? Which is HOT? Sorry, this just truly seems idiotic...I would expect more from them.

Firstly, I would imagine that the thermal paste contact on the CPU heatsink is probably pretty suspect on this particular model. I found no evidence of mass overheating of G5 iMacs in my research.
The crack about the manhood refers to PowerBooks, rather than iMacs, and is based on my experience of PowerBooks - Editor Wil Harris has a 15" model, and I found it ran *very* warm. Not to the point of crashing, but certainly enough to give you, err, sweaty thighs if you were literally working on your lap. Most laptops / notebooks are used on a desk or table most of the time, so they are more of portable convenience than literal groin-mounted computers. But there's no denying that Apple aim for the sexiest packaging possible, and this may sometimes result in thermal issues. |

Maybe Apple could make a white 120mm fan with rounded edges and call it "iCool" or "iFan." That would be cute.

That was more of a problem with the Revision A models, the Revision B's (A.S.L.) aren't as susceptable to such problems

There shouldn't be a revision anything that releases with these problems!
Thermal issues need to be worked out before shipping...that's like saying "Oh yeah, the hard drive on Revision A catches fire every 20 minutes..." NO! That's not ready to ship! ![]() If a wintel notebook crashed every 30-45 minutes with heat, every macophile would be laughing their ass off... @pope, Ok, I get it now. Sorry, a bit slow.

I just wanted to share this fan that I found online earlier today. It's a little less ugly, and a little more Apple.
