Could this be the 9500NP of the current generation cards? If those pipes could be unclogged you'd have some serious horsepower for a relatively meagre outlay. Will be very interested to see how this goes!

If those pipes can be unlocked this'll be the best value videocard for sure. In fact, I think that ATI are doing this on purpose. What would you go for? A 6600GT or an X800GT that can possibly become an X850? I think that the answer is clear.

sounds to me like this is competition to the 6800LE that currently rules the roost in terms of getting something for nothing by unlocking and overclocking. This has GDDR3 RAM so in theory should be even better.

oooohh... And ATI take a swing... I smell softmod.

This would be so sweet, if only it had SM3 support...

LOL @ Da Dego

a) It was never going to have SM3 support
b) Show me where you need it
c) £140 is pretty cheap. If it has decent speed, nobody will care about the "lack" of SM3

For example, IF FEAR happened to look noticeably better under SM3 vs SM2, I think people spending £400 on a top ATI card might have grounds to feel a bit miffed. But IF they can a decent speed boost over their current 9800 Pro card for just £140 with this new card, I suspect users will be far happier at being able to run higher res / AA (maybe for the first time) and higher detail / bigger textures rather than bemoan having "only SM2" .

Hehe...you're so right, Pope...but the problem is, I don't upgrade for only a year. I'm not about to drop even $200 on a graphics card that is already outdated in its very base technology. Not when I can buy a 6800LE for roughly the same cost. The 256mb is nice, though...

I AM impressed at the card, though...I think this will be a great mid-range addition.
