Ok if one x16 SLI is on the SPP and one is on the MCP, then the interlink must have at least more than x16 bandwidth to not bottleneck everything else plugged into the MCP - like your 10 USB devises, 4 SATA 2 ports etc

Couldn’t the nForce4 Pro chipset already do this? If so is this 'new' chipset just the nForce 4 pro renamed?

I thought NForce 4 Pro was just two MCPs?

i.e. one MCP per CPU

This does seem to work very much like a cut down version of the pro chipset, but with a few differences.

The pro version worked with a primary mcp connected to the cpu's and up to 3 secondary chips which added 20 pci-e lanes 4 sata channels and 1 additional gigabit mac, (but thats all)

This new chipset works by having the mcp connect to the cpu via the spp instead. I assume this was done so that both amd and intel platforms can now use the same mcp, undoubtedly making life easier and cheaper for NVidia.

The spp is now just carrying the additional pci-e lanes, (plus memory controller for the intel platform)
