This is just insane... I mean, I know that Apple fans can be a bit rabid at time (Hey, I'm one of them) but really - would the same thing have happened if the laptops in question had been 4 year old Dells?
I think Apple computers age far better then PCs. Hell, I woulda joined that riot too!

Why didn't they just sling the whole lot on eBay or something? They would have made a lot more cash and avoided the mentalism

Yeah, I think bloodcar hit it on the money...mac technology doesn't advance as rapidly, so a 4yr old iBook is still a decent piece of machinery.

Also, when it comes to laptops, I hate to say it (as I duck behind my desk), but mac rules. Having used all different types, I'd SOOO rather have a small iBook than any other laptop computer. I still prefer wintel desktops, but have no earthly interest in a laptop with windows on it.

LOL so true.

"Maybe you where there - either way,.." -were there

As for the mob, I'd try to get the laptops hard.... Man $50 512mb SD card for PDA cost that much.

Well, Cheap, keep in mind, these are 4 years old...this is pre OSX. Frankly, the 512mb SD card can DO more.

they were stupid from the start at setting the price so low. they definitely should have set it to at least $150, that way people would actually think about what theyre buying and weither or not its worth that to them. i would have put them on ebay or something like that though, it makes a lot more sense.

I read it cost something like $45,000 to have the sale.. and they made $50,000 of the laptops. Kind of stupid imo.. but not as stupid as limiting it to county residence only! They lost out on thousands of 'tourism' dollars.

And the problem with posting them on ebay would have been that the price would have been driven way down. You could get them for about about 400-500 before this sale, and usually their 20 or so of them listed. With a 1000 of them up the price would have sunk. But they still would have made more then $50 each.

Well, they could have staggered it on ebay, 20 a week or whatever. Would only have taken a year, and they would have made a LOT more money.

To be there 4:30am, man that is hardcore.
Well I would probably be there too, but seeing that being early did not make any sense because people just pushed their way through, they should have made a battle royale between all people, the 1000 people standing get to buy their laptop.....

lol.

Weird how they limited this to Henrico County residents only though.

Btw, "where" should be "were". I don't mean to be anal but... I am.

Oh the humanity! That poor girl, losing what must have been $1 worth of footwear as she selflessly struggled to get to the front to generously hand over $50 in exchange for nothing but a fully working laptop. What a martyr!
