I'm looking forward to it, but Isn't the silver membership for Live free anyway? And gold is paid for... Linky.

Oh, and thats cheaper than I was expecting, I thought it was gonna be £300 on release.

Yeah, we were all concerned it would be £299, so £279 is a bonus, and having a stripped down version at £209 is even better. Regarding the Live stuff - all I know is that the Silver membership isn't mentioned for the Core System bundle, though they really should chuck it in there.

I expect MS PR to be rushed off their feet today, but I'll ask for clarification just the same.

I guess the Core System doesn't come with Silver Live membership because it doesn't come with a headset? Maybe when you buy the headset, you get free Silver membership included?
I have to say that the price came as a surprise to me - if they do launch in the UK on Nov 24, that's only a few days after my birthday...guess I know what I'll be asking for

I don't get it... I'm not a console gamer, so forgive me.

You buy the XBox 360, they give you a Live Silver membership, but you can't actually use it to play games? According to the link tetleyex posted, all you get is a glorified telephone.

To actually play games online you need to upgrade to the Gold service (and presumably pay a monthly fee).

Is that right?

YAY! Think it'll go quite nicely in the spare VGA port on my 2005FPW

Free market my a*se
Who wants to bet that if you buy the US version to get a better deal, that games bought in the UK won't work on it. Even the version sold in the rest of Europe is cheaper

The price seem about right, but the accessoies are massively overpriced! £22.99 for a tiny memory stick and £60 for wireless NIC. I assumed it would have been built in.

It's only an estimated retail price. It's not an official ms priceguide I mean the accesories are estimated...not the console price.

Oh, & what exactly is a 20GB detactable hard drive?

[quote=Flibblebot]I guess the Core System doesn't come with Silver Live membership because it doesn't come with a headset?[quote]

Every Xbox console will come with some common features such as support for 720 progressive scan digital TV, the Silver Edition of Xbox Live for free, progressive scan DVD, an Ethernet cable, and a Media Center Extender.

Source

But who knows if that will extend to the UK though...

Xbox Live Silver level

Create an online Gamer Profile
Access the Xbox Live Marketplace
Engage in voice and text messaging
Talk to a single friend at a time using voice chat
Receive video messages from Gold level members
Access massively multiplayer online games (additional fees may apply)
You can buy things like Maps, and characters on the 'marketplace' thing. Theres also like free days(trial things) to play a certain game online for nothing. I dont know where I read that.... but thats what I read.

Also you can transfer your current Gamertag onto the 360 live system for a gold membership.... I think, but thats just what I've heard on live. I haven't seen Microsoft say this, so I'm not sure if it's true or not.

Xbox 360 might be the first console that I would own.

Not a bad price at all.

Might just wait and see how sony react to the pricing though as both consoles are tempting

Given the difference in price between the core and premium packs, I don't see them shifting many core packs. I definitely would stump up the extra £70. What do you guys reckon?

XBL is £40 a year I think... Get a starter pack for £40 and get a year free membership though, it includes a mic too.

Might want to think about mugging the woman that won the EuroMillions lottery - easier than getting a job, and you may be able to afford as many as 3 or 4 games with her £77m
