Unreal Engine 4 in development

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/08...real_engine_4/

Golly - where to start? Do we talk about the projected System Specs for Unreal Engine 3, or take a stab at Unreal Engine 4 which will appear maybe some time like 2008...

I would guess UE4 will just render millions more polys than UE3, but when you can boil down a 6m poly model to 10k and have it still look like those screenies, what more do you need? Hundreds of those guys running around at the same time?

Will there be enough texture artists to keep up with the High Definition Age?

What kinda progress they wanna make after UE3? Like animate every hair on the beasts body? Animate the guts just in case they will be spilled all over the map? o.O
I'll wait to see what graphics card can handle UE3 and if my crappy pc can do (2600+, 1gb ram, 6600GT).

My word, that looks pretty remarkably decent! Might finally justify taking the plunge and upgrading to skt939+PCI-E to play some of these new fangled games.

<off-topic>, what does "o.O" mean? Seen it around a few places and I'm not much up on the net speak.</off-topic>

"o.O" is supposed to look like a smiley, with like one eye bulging out. It's a bit like a raised eyebrow.

Bear in mind that no UE3 games will be out this year, and for half the price of a top graphics card, you'll be able to buy an Xbox 360 and just play them on that. Though I'm no fan of console FPS action.

Also worth considering is that the ATI chip inside Xbox 360 is reportedly as powerful (or maybe more so still) than the 2006 GPU that's coming *after* R520 - their 7800 rival due in September.

This article has a big chunk of whitespace in it when I view it - the entire height of the right hand banner ad.

Think it might be cause by the lack of space/line break between the last picture and the "Image copyright..." text.

Hahaha... Cheap, you know me too well.

May I be the 9 millionth to say PREEEETTTTTTTY! And no comment on the physics, Epic is one of the preferred partners of the Aegis Physx PPU, which will work with U3. So I can't really complain. I'll be looking forward to yet another genre-dominating unreal engine.

Well I myself think that although graphics will get better with Unreal Engine 4, there will (probably is/was) for better physics (hence post above), and I think UE4 is geared to make it much easier to create high quality games, cheaper and faster. If we look at past and today's graphics we can see how much visual quality advanced, however the way games are created stayed relatively similar. I hope that UE4 will lower costs to make games, however that might result in more.... ehhmm not so good games... but with less focus on release dates and on budget, developers could (hopefully) put more emphasis on innovation. I think that... ...okay, okay that's enaugh.

pleaaaaaassssseeeee tell me UT2007 wont look like this...... It will be impossible to see our targets with all those damn details......

Fast paced action games are getting killed by the 'eye candy first , gameplay second' attitude that the game producers have had for the past few years...

Yes UT 2007 will look quite similar to that, but you crying over details is rather stupid since you can very easily turn off "eyecandy." UT 2004 on lowest details looks rather interesting... =)

I do think Ghys' kinda right. Look at Doom³... Very nice graphic indeed, but where the hell did the speed go? Or look at Unreal 2... It felt like playin' a damn alcoholic turtle! If I start any id or Epic game's mp part I WANT TO BE BLOWN AWAY BY THE SPEED! Yeh, UT2k4 was nice. It was fast, it even was too fast partially, but it was kinda oldschool.
I love the graphic next generation engines are able to produce (Serious Sam 2, UE3 some of these awesome looking XBox games (btw: FPS on console? wtF?!)) but if I want to play a slow mp game I play Civilization 3. o.O

However that's where UT2007 should get back on track. When first news about UT2007 came about I read developers interview and they said that they are trying to bring oldschool gaming. Because UT2003 was a big letdown, and UT 2004 was not as good as they expected. So let's hope it will be good.

Quake 4 which uses the Doom 3 engine is supposed to be as fast, if not slightly faster than Quake 3!

Perfection in 'virtual reality' is inperfection. Whats the one thing that stands out when you look at a really realistic painting or an almost lifelike 3d character somone has made, its too perfect... too balanced, too clean, too rigid...

So ofcourse they can improve on even the most advanced games

It will get to the stage where you cant tell the difference between virtual reality and virtual reality one day.

Well thats my view anyway

UT2004 is freaking awesome in TAM , this is a 'new' mod that they need to introduce in the next UT. It pretty much gave UT2004 a second life on the ladders , im sure it would be a great addition to the new UT
