Its Centrino... on a desktop. (iirc its also pronounced like five...)

This looks more like a maneuver to shift attention from the Pentium 4 brand name towards things that are more ambiguous; Conroe doesnt even have a name yet. Its like theyre trying to make major computer manufacturers use unified tech like Apple's. While its good for reliability, its also an obvious way to stifle out competition.

"Hey mommy what about this one? *pointing to a nice looking, inexpensive, just as capable box*" "No sweety, not that one, lets get this one-it says its family friendly and has a pretty logo and that one doesnt, so this one MUST be better!"

Its also a nice way to introduce a whole-load of new DRM features, with a shiney logo.

Great, more over-simplification and dumbing down for the techno illiterate masses. More should be spent on educating people to use the stuff we have rather than making new stuff that tells people it is ok not to have to learn about things.

(personal bugbear of mine that's all)

Probably, but I'd imagine there's more to it than just DRM. And of course, DRM != ease of use.

I agree wholeheartedly with the "more dumbing down" instead of educating people. "It doesn't work" really doesn't give me much to start with when troubleshooting! I'll identify the problem stick of ram out of the array or what command in what program causes the crash, which is useful, unlike "I need more memory" for their being out of HD space.

But I'd imagine it'll effectively boil down to hardware DRM and idiotproofing.
