What level of punishment would he have received if he had simply stolen a phone, and then made prank calls? He should receive that level of punishment, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't include incarceration.

11 months would be rather excessive for just the phone thing imo
but "Other crimes committed by the teenager in a 15-month period starting in March 2004 included breaking into the networks of net and telephone firms, and making bomb threats to high schools in Florida and Massachusetts."
meh, ****er deserved it

Ahh, never read the whole thing, sorry.

tbh thats what i'm more worried about firms not having enough security messures to safe guard personal information. I'm a person that values personal space and privacy. I've nothing to hide, but that doesnt mean I should give my life story to people. I don't care if he got hold of her phone or some of her photo's where puiblished, these artists are in the lime light all the time, so one more photo doesnt matter, It's the price you pay for money and fame. I think he shoukldv'e gotten away with the phone thing or maybe a fine, and at least 2 years for the theft of personal information, and he should be bombarded himself with junk mail and made to read it.

I remember watching this unfold on SA, it was a hilarious drama-bomb of epic proportions. I suspect his punishment has more to do with this other crimes than this one, I can't imagine anyone got upset that people like Justin Timberlake and Eminem had to deal with regular people for once.

Sounds to me like this kid just really needs to be given a positive outlet for his skills. He is clearly very talented; if he was given a job testing and improving Internet security for a large firm he could go far!

I seem to remember this being partly Paris Hilton's fault, in that she left her bluetooth on and unprotected, or something like that. I wouldn't be suprised; seeing Paris Hilton on The Simple Life just makes me want to pick her up and shake her!

Please don't do that...then the last three brain cells will fall out and the silicone will claim the cavity by the laws of vacuum pressure...and it just won't be good.

Nah, there are a few things that you have to keep in mind.

1. For the next 11 months the technology that companies use is going to evolve, at least to some degree while his level of knowledge decreases from the 11 months off.

2. When he's released his probation will almost certainly contain some sort of restriction on computer use. This by default will keep him from getting a job in the field.

3. There are thousands of kids out there that COULD do the same crap he did. Hundreds that actually do it. He's just stupid enough to get caught. There's no point honoring sub-par performance.

just my 3 cents.
