do you guys do anything else then complaining?

I'm glad this happened, x800 users will be able to achieve it with just a minor performance lost. Good news.

I don't see how either kickarse or myself were complaining, but I guess I'll answer your question with: yes, we do. My point was more that "wow, this is a neat feature, though I won't buy older hardware to get it...now I see what the fuss was about, makes me want the 7800 I've been eyeing up that much more." I suppose I could have phrased it better, though...

And you're right, it is a VERY nice feature, particularly for a mid-range card. I don't know about the performance hit, though...they said it dropped 10 frames, but our source was not backed up yet, and I don't think anyone on our forums has tried the mod out yet. If you have one, please try it, and let us know how it works!

Ive just tried it, ( sorry if ive been a little rash) there is a better visual in games, not much of a drop, hl2 just dropped by 5 frames, however, there was a temperature gain higher then usual, around 2 to 5 degrees for me, dunno about the others. The games are loocking better, but I would recommend a decent screen and to use at least a 1024X768 setup to see the difference better.

Are you overclocked? That is a pretty steep temp increase...what does yours normally run at, to put it relatively?

Well also remember, going from 40fps to 30fps is drastically different than going from 100fps to 90fps.

I'm using a Sapphire X800 pro vivo flashed to an Xt pe and im overclocked to a 560/560. I am using a ATi artic cooler v4 (Ill too mod it to allow a duct for a cooling with fresher air). My Usual temps while running are 32 degrees Idle and 58 loaded. Im going 59-60 now with the hack.

In fps, I was down 100-110 fps, and im doing 71-75fps with all setting set up to high, the lost is tollerable, and not noticable, I didnt get any slow down in games.

Just a correction on the article:

All ATI cards featuring DX9 can use Transparency AA, thus from R3XX.

I repeat, this is a feature not only for R4X0 cards!

9500 (R300)

9600 Pro (R350)

Further proof that the Radeon 9500-9800 pwned NVidia's behind...

Now why the @$!# wasn't this advertised as a feature then?!! GAAAH! I'd never have bought that crummy fx5 series...

They're probably saving it for an R520 debut surprise, that or all the bugs aren't quite out of it yet...I got some e-mails in to ATi trying to find out, but I have a feeling I won't be hearing anything until release about it. (They always get tight-lipped right near the end. )

I re-downloaded HL2 & CS:S last night just to see the chainlink fences in the beginning and they were just fracking incredibly crisp...it was beautiful.

And GTA...

This still doesn't help in shader busted AA games though, Spider-man Ultimate and BloodRayne2 still got funkiness going down...but I'm very enthused!

I'm trying like hell to get hold of Terry Makedon about this, but am having no luck...I think he's hiding so he doesn't have to tell me he can't tell me yet.

nVidia has their own version of dealing with transparent AA and I don't think their hardware supports multiple AA patterns. (nV40 didn't, I ain't up to speed on nV50 to be honest )
