It's intresting that Nominet would stick up for the US, they probably know what they're on about. However they just handle .uk domains, and each country has its own .XX domain, so they don't really count for much.

I'd have to say that I like argentina's suggestion. I don't think complete control by the UN is a good thing right now and I'd hate to see China, Iran, or other such countries able to affect how the internet is handled so that they can increase the level of censorship and oppression in their countries. I feel that such changes would threaten Free Speech rights of those in other countries and such a move should not be allowed to occur.

Well as much as I dislike a single country having control, the system works fine, so let's not screw with it. Except how our (US) ranking for internet usage per capita is dropping rapidly relative to the rest of the world and our connections compared to many countries are slow as hell. I suppose we should have slightly better pings or something silly like that.
