It'd be good to know if that actually works. It fails to detect my audigy 2 properly, claiming it doesn't support EAX 3.0 or "Advanced HD", which it obviously does.

I'd definitely have one if I were building my dream gaming rig. It would be fairly low on the list, however - I'd probably be fitting an A64 X2 4800+, 2x1gig decent speed RAM and a pair of 7800 GTs in SLI before thinking about splashing £150 on a soundcard. As it stands, I'm running 2x256MB of PC2100, and a 128MB radeon 9600 pro on an XP 2200+, so my dream system is a looooooooong way off!!

I fancy an x-fi board but one major thing puts me off them.
NO SPDIF ON THE BACKPLATE. I want spdif out the back of my comp (pref non optical) not a cable hanging down the from from a breakout box. |

is creative trying to get some kind of direct X standard for audio (ignoring the fact direct sound already exists)?
if so and if it had enough cool features/big enough Fps boost it may just help them combat high quality onboard audio.

As for buying an X-Fi, I was considering it, but then I realized that my Audigy Gamer is fine for gaming, and if I was worried about sound quality I wouldn't go near creative, and go straight for a M-Audio card. I don't really see the point in buying a card like this if you already own an Audigy of some sort unless you have a massively expensive stereo system and you want gaming performance more than audio fidelity.

Why dont they just support DD EX or DTS ES in games.. All i need is a digita/opti out and hook it to my DD/DTS reciever. Just one card with a good encoder and dig/opti out support of suround sounds. This card will be small and cheap. (like the ethernet cards nowadays) Or could be made onboard. Remember that motherboards with dig/opt out are not supporting full Digital suround on the outputs!
You can put a headphone into your reciever headphone socket this will result in way better signal output then from a soundcard. just my 2 € cents...
