Ebuyer state that the card is a 'single slot' solution when I always thought the XT vesions were a dual slot card. Is the sapphire one different?

Yes, If I'm not mistaken F.E.A.R, BF2, Doom3, Quake4 at their highest playable settings require 512 mb of ram on your GPU.

hm...I didn't know that...i thought that 256 MB of GDD3 was enough...oh well you need а ridiculous amount of memory
I think that the 512 MB RAM and the overclocking capabilities of the card would bring amazing performance...

My 256MB GTX can handle all those games at 1280x1024 maxed without running out...

Oh yeah, definitely, I'm just saying that it's not needed at this moment in time.

"Ultra" settings on Doom3-based games need 512mb to run smoothly. Other games at highest settings can also make use... I'd imagine things like soft shadows in FEAR would get a boost from it.

the 7800gtx 512mb was selling on an american e-tailer $799. But since about 5 mins ago the link to it has said that item does not exist. Nvidia boys got to work on that pretty fast. Looks like the rumours about a 14th Nov release could be solidifying.

wait a few months... they will be alot cheeper. Aslo the 512mb video ram is only needed if you game at 1600x1200 with AA and AF with maxed out graphics. If you already have a x850pe why not just get a huge monitor instead to at least tax your current card :P

.....take it you havent seen my project adamantium then

IVE GOT A FRIGGIN HUGE MOFO MONITOR!

doesnt mean my games will run smoothly, in fact they dont really like above 1600x1200 (they dont even like 1600x1200) i have to run @ about 1280x1024 in 9:10 or whatever it is....

im tempted to get an x850 master card and go with crossfire, but id rahter not both, could get a ruddy 7800gtx for the price of the master card :@
