great news thats all I have to say. Im still bitter about the fact that they were dumb enough to let it happen like that but ill get over it im sure. Now if that doesnt make them think twice about that patent we have been hearing rumors about for the PS3 they will never learn haha.

People vote with their wallet and complain on slashdot. If only it worked on the government.

They already know they've hurt PS3 sales by doing this, what with brand (dis)loyalty and whatnot, though this will probably make things worse for them... making it that much more obvious they screwed over consumers, and then try and make it better by sucking up.

As if exchanging the CD does any good, seeing that reformatting is still the only "safe" way to remove the malware. Oops, forgot about that one, didn't ya boys?

i dont know, but i dont think it is right to boycott sony or bash sony because of this, well maybe sony music, but certainly not sony electronics or sony pictures. thats just not right, they are completely different corporations in that respect.

and that apology certaintly sounds legit and well thought out to me, i forgive them completely.

hmmm... yes we should be showing the record industry that they are not gods and they don't survive without the customer and by beeing greedy punks as they are they only scare away the customer. The record indutry should start listening to the customers more ofthen. I hope the others learned a lesson: "Stop beeing greedy and WE DON'T WANT TO HAVE YOU MESSING AROUND ON OUR COMPUTERS!!"

Agreed, they still have not come up with any way of cleanly uninstalling this AFAIK, which really is a must if they want any credibility back. And I don't mean relying on security companies coming up with something.

I would try and do the same, unfortunatly they have really nice products, I own a fair few Sony products myself and plan to buy a few more. As someone pointed out, Sony Music and electronics are not the same company although owned by the same person.

We will forgive them eventually won't we...

"We want to hear your suggestions for alternative ways of piracy limitation and general DRM."

sony- lower the sodding prices and stop taking us for fools we albums are not worth £10 a go and we know what massive profits your making.

then we wont need to pirate music because it will be of an resonable / affordable price!!

of course we all know that they wont take the sensible route, they will try to use protection and lawsuits to stop piracy. which will fail.

then eventialy it will be to late, artists will start making contracts direct with distributers (like apple) cutting out the middle men and making more money, while offering us the consumers a lower price product because a huge cut doesnt have to go to the gready companys like sony.

No! They say they will come up with a program cleaning up your hdd!
... and of course spying your privacy, uploading information and generally searching for pirated material.

Just don't try to buy anything that's not officially released here, because they will try to put a stop to that too ahem*psp*ahem.

Maybe you will, but I like to be bitter.

I had forgotten about that. I will put money on the fact they will do the same wit the PS3 too, and that'll be 6 months before the EU see's it.

If Sony spent the money they would have done on lawsuits against it's customers on money reducing CD prices everyone would be better off.

Exactly what I was thinking.

"No, we're sorry...so sorry...by the way, what're all these MP3's? We're sorry...so sorry...here's your lawsuit for $2.7m, we reduced it from 4 because of all the advertising-relevant data we got by scanning your hard drive."

Rofl Da Dego. Personally, I think it is wonderful that they have done this, but they should still burn in Corporate hell for eternity. The laughable thing is this whole stint did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO PIRATES. It only affected the people who legally bought the music. Now that's a way to treat your customers.

Isn't that the way with most DRM? The hackers know what they're looking for. It's only the unaware general consumer who gets shafted.
