Quake 2 was the best damn single player experiance i ever played, and yes it was the 1st game i had running on 3dfx. you gotta give credit to Raven for doing a cracking job of Q4 but you just cant beat the original, im going to be keeping a watchful eye on this.

quake2 was the worst game ever made. *shudders* i can still hear those ever-repeating-looping-over-and-over-again ambient sound effects...sooooo baaad. and those levels, ack!

but projects adding new graphics to old games is always fun. maybe i'll install it when its ready just to have a looksie. maybe if i mute it, and dont try to play it, it wont send me into a fit of insanity.. just enjoy it as a conceptual piece.

Me, I was 9 years old and just received a small package from my grandfather. The contents read Doom 2, a small cd with a ragged marine firing a 12 gauge in the direction of a cybernetic horned Demon with a silver arm cannon standing twice as tall. I played it untill I had beat the game, along with doom 1, ultimate Doom, Final Doom (TnT & Plutonia) and all of them.... Every single level on "Ultra-Violence". Only a true fan will recall the difficulty setting and only a true fan understands that some levels in the series are mathematically impossible to beat on nightmare. Any way....

Doom was the best game in the world to me... old Doom. Feilds of demons lay waste and sprawled out before the mighty shaft of my "boom-chick-chick" shot gun. Seeing a Cacodemons intestines belch out of it's jaws and actually having flashes of panic in the night as child. Seeing myself gunning down soul hungry things in the dark running at me for blood when I close my eyes yes, I would like to have that experience again and with updated technology for the realism in the simulation. Give it to me id, give it to me unchanged, only updated.

Anybody thinks Quake 2 is the worst game ever made deffinitly never played it through. And deffinitly never played "Pool of Radiance" And the sound affex? Please. Radio transmitions like: 'Marines we are at 5% groung force operational status" while hearing the hyperblaster wind down after the wall breaks apart with cyber organic frog dogs spearing you with retractable toungs and bow legged abominations with hook arms and rail guns... Again, did you play first person shooters in 97'? I ran that **** on software mode at an unspeakable resolution and found it amazing. Given that I was twelve at the time, I recently beat the game again before Q4 was released and still think of it as a stepping stone for 3d games in general.

P.S. You didn't think the levels where the marines are being fed to the dismantling machines and being torn apart for their limbs to make cybernetic things were (for lack of a better word) cool?!!? What is Cool>?!?!

I really remember installing my first 3DFX card and playing it in accelerated OpenGL for the first time. Holy Moly!
I was about half way through Q2 when I got my VooDoo2.... I still remember the lighting effects after shooting one of the energy based rifles (OK, I can't remember the name of the gun.... ) down a long tubular corridor and watching the glow follow the bolts along the walls.

I was totally blown away!

I'll definitely be having a go with this

Just broke this out to play it for old times' sake. It's still pretty good, although the graphics are obviously rather primitive... superb at the time, though. I remember getting an Orchid Righteous 3D accelerator waaay back and playing this on it

q2ctf was the pinnacle of my gaming experience as a young boy, graphics really went somewhere else after I got my voodoo stacked onto my matrox card. Those were the days, and GRAPLING HOOK FOREVER!

This what the firsxt fps game I played all the way through. I loved it to death and like others played it again recently. Level design and puzzles were great. Better gfx?? Hella yeah. This one will sell like hotcakes with free porn attached!

Quake 2 was the nuts, really good game in either single player (if you play it through) or multi player, anyone play the Action Quake mod?

To be perfectly honest, it's gonna shite all over Q4 if they do this properly and it sounds like they are making an effort.

Need to fire Quake 2 up again really, must be going for a couple o quid on ebay, il av a l@@k

Do you need the original Doom 2 to play, because I don't have D2 and D2e won't start up.

It's just a pity this project is taking so long, as Odium is so particular about the look of the new graphics. I've seen some great replacement models done by talented artists turned down as they didn't look 'just right'

I guess we're the winners at the end of it, though.
