But like all things, the price will come down drastically with time and new technology. Very cool, IMO.

Hahaha, on a side note, in the forum index, it shows the thread title as being "Samsung unveils 7-inch..."
![]() Wait a second though, hasn't flexible LCD already been done? Or is it just the size of it that everyone is impressed with?

I'll take a couple. I imagine once they start combining this stuff with other flexible materials, we'll be on the way to something. Bendable laptop anyone?

I want one. Or two. Or a few, it looks like that would make some great mosaics.

sure looks like it - that would be sweet...no dead phones from one drop, you just pick it up and keep using it.

ANother note is not only a matter of durability, but one of weight since a thinner screen that doens't require glass will also weigh less. A more flexible substrate could also, for example, be integrated into the visor of a helmet so that pilots could have a heads-up display system without goggles or view angle restrictions. PDAs and handheld devices could also potentially have folding screens for use as secondary display options, or for interaction with overhead projectors.

This would be sweet in conjuntion w/ touch-screen technology. Just imagine what 1 or 2 or those in your car would be like (Music, GPS, Videos, cough*wardriving*)
Or imagine if used as a HUD-like device. The possiblilities are nearly limitless. |

I'm more interested in seeing whether or not LCD prices will drop as a result of this. A plastic substrate -- flexible or not -- has to be cheaper and less prone to manufacturing faults than the traditional glass panels, surely?
I can't seem to find any word on whether or not these new plastic substrates still have to be micro-etched to align the crystals. Nezuji

Gaming helmet
Gaming helmet:
Put the Screen on the outside of a motorcycle visor (still flip up) and drill holes for 5.0 audio ( .1 sub on floor). And run an umbilical cord for A/V out the back of the helmet. Perhaps use the vents on the helmet with a small fan......
