"As Microsoft is a well known rival of Google, are they actually doing their best, if anything, to solve the compatibility problem?"

Isn't that the other way around Choclate-bar man?

It has been "fixed" by Google now, even though the flaw was in IE. (it is still exploitable, just not with Google Desktop)

Google must be trying to beat the open source people by fixing things faster than they can.

/waves his browser compatibility soapbox before standing on it.

IF MS bothered to actually interpret CSS the way it was written instead of allowing impure elements such as javascript that is called through the CSS tags (Yes, IE actually does this), they would find they weren't in such a predicament. Then agin, whilst they're fixing, it would be nice if they fix their beloved 3px error that they've loved so much as to keep it for 4 damn generations of IE.

Grrr.

That is all.

/EDIT: no, not all...they could also fix the fact that even in standards mode, they don't render borders compliantly.

Thing is...Which of the two browsers has had less security warning issued about it?

Oh yes...IE

Which of the two browsers has had less serious and critical warnings about it?

Oh yes...IE again...

Then again - Opera has them both beat.
