It's not the retailer's fault....

But if there's one thing that can really hack off a British person, it's waiting in que and finding someone who ordered it after you getting their's first!

I hope they're not sending them out in alphabetical order of last name rather than date ordered!

Again, just another sign that microsoft rushed this console to launch, trying to get a hand up on sony and try to steal away some of there market share. It looks like it might of backfired on them as i know alot of people who have decided to wait till both systems are launched to decide rather than just buying one right away(Like they would have a chence to buy one anyway). I think if they would of waited another month or two, and revamped stock to -atleast- a million consoles per country, they might of had a good chance and stealing some market share away.

I understand what microsoft have said about the retailer, i work for Dixons part time and we stopped taking pre orders as we didnt know how many units we would get let alone any. so if you didnt know how many you were garanteed to get how do you know how many orders you can forfill?? but Microsoft did botch the launch and should have made sure that the unit were fault free allowing more unit to be sold and not to have to keep units back to replace faulty units, and not makeing enough in the first place.

its a big lesson for the other manufacturers in launching a new product for the chirstmas rush and i think microsoft will pay heavily for this. but its nothing they cant afford.

but as they say, bad press is free advertising as such as its putting the consoles name on everyones lips/papers/news etc

I think MS just wanted to release before the Christmas launch, but tbh even if MS released it after Christmas, the consoles will still sell out.

I think Sony will be keeping availability high, I remember when the PS2 was released it was pretty easy to get hold of one.

I do think Amazon has to take some of the blame, they accepted too many pre orders when they didn't know how much stock they were gonna recieve

Heh, yea..easy for you to get your hands on because you lived in the UK. On the state side, we had to kill people to get our ps2's. Mothers whent to war for the right to own a ps2 to give to there son or daughter on christmas day. But i think the ps3 will be MUCH different, as they have actually had a long time since they announced that the system is being developed and havnt really seemed to rush a thing. I just hope they keep the controller design, as it is the same design as the old controller but slightly skewed. That way i can buy a third party ps3 controller that actually looks like a good controller and acts like my trusty ps2 controller.

Well, I can see why Amazon.co.uk is getting blamed for this, and I see how it can be merited. They made a contractual guarantee to their pre-order customers that they would be able to recieve their units by Christmas Day. However, a number of people who signed on to a pre-order, (which, as I would presume, does cost a good chunk of dough, if not paying fully in advance) wound up getting effectively "cheated" on their part of the deal. And because Microsoft is not accepting direct liability to the customers, it is thus the fault of Amazon. Simple legal logic.

Of course, it remains to be seen if the retailers lash out at Microsoft for cutting them short a bit. Microsoft was likely far to cunning to pull a trick of guaranteeing any specific number that they wouldn't certainly be able to fulfil, so in reality, while they technically were partially at fault for the shortages, (by virture of not producing enough) legally they are free. It's the problem of the retailers. And honestly, if I've already paid in August for the guarantee to have an Xbox 360 by Christmas, I would be royally ticked if I was told that I couldn't have it until spring 2006, and all they offered me was £10. So really, those of you suggesting that the customers are being unreasonable perhaps aren't looking the problem here through properly.

Transparent - LOL

Sorry transparent, how about limited with information and liars.

I ordered in August with Play.com. So far I have had , "you are near the top of the list for the next shipment, which is probably going to be before Xmas" then not a day later "We won't get any consoles now until January....the list is with the warehouse in Jersey....we have no visibility of it" followed by, don't count on one before March"..........MARCH !!!!!!!!!

....and what about Microsoft with "we will ship new stock every week". Why can't anyone give a straight answer. My only positive thought is that they will probably solve the faults by the time I get mine. GITS

Hmmm... people in some third world countries just want some food. Perhaps (oh, the audacity!) some medical care for their sick child. And if they feel really lucky, they hope to make it into the next year without famine, natural disaster, plague or civil war... Long term objective: get a goat.

Some people ought to get a f**king grip already. All that agony and impatience for a friggin' game console? Are they for real?!?

I'm talking about all the impatience and hype of people wanting to get their hands on an X-Box (before, a PSP) like, NOW! So the retailers ran out. So what? They'll get new stock within a month or so, no biggie. What is the big deal with everybody (not directed at people in this thread, just generally)?

Well, a number of them recieved what was a contractually binding promise from the retailers, that they would recieve one at that time, and the customers then paid money for this. It's perhaps understandable for them to be upset that the contract was broken by the other side, even if it was due to elements that were in no way within the control of either party. Kinda like purchasing an object and having it shipped to you, only it, say, gets lost or destroyed during shipment; insurance will get you another one, but it will take at least a few more weeks.

And let's not forget, inumerable people had pre-ordered this thing with the intention of it being their major gift to someone for this holiday season. If you were all set on getting someone a $400US present, only to find that your pre-order that should've gotten it won't be fulfiled in time, I'd imagine just about anyone would be left with some pretty strong negative feelings there.
