Sweet..... Just gave it a spin and it seems to be working fine on my 7800 GT. I'm not much of a video converter but it seemed to do okay coverting a avi divx to DVD spec mpeg2. I have to say it did seem faster than programs I have used in the past for similar tasks. Quality seemed good but I've got little to compare to.

Sadly didn't seem to support .mov files which would have been great for converting those trailers into portable formats.

Quicktime can burn in hell, they force you to download iTunes, and then when I tell Quicktime not to play my mp3/mpeg/avi it hijacks my MIME types so I've opted to boycott Quicktime and Apple until they figure out not to be shady with their player/packaging.

Actually valium there's link on the quicktime download page to download quicktime by itself. Mind you, it isn't easy to find, take a look on the right hand side of the page.

I've found that in 90% of cases Quicktime Alternative is all you need. If you really require Quicktime player to play something you can always grab Quicktime Standalone so that you don't get lumbered with iTunes (although I use iTunes myself :/). You have to disable the Quicktask icon and make sure you don't allow any settings to enable automatically (file type inc.).

I don't really like .mov but it seems we're stuck with it if the movie companies have anything to do with it.

It's tough to find now, but there is a standalone somewhere.

However, if it works with my 6800gt (as Boon noted, it seems to work on 7-series anyways), I'll be hugely psyched. Working at a video store, I make a lot of *ahem* archival copies. And I've considered with a vague degree of seriousness of saving for a dual dual-core opteron box, as I've transcoded three video sources at once on more than one occasion, while burning a DVD and having a bit more fun.

...edit
hmm - trying it out with my 6800gt. Seems to be working, but I'd need to compare it with a different transcode for timing obviously. I can't seem to use dvdshrink output files (video_ts.ifo, etc), presumably not dvd decrypter either, but I'm trying from a "100% quality" xvid source to ipod format. Predicts about 13min for the total time for Blue Streak; full movies typically take 45mins and that's in mpeg4 (or whatever it is) mode, not h.264.

Hmm, they took the link down due to "bandwidth and server performance"
I wonder if ATI's lawyers are the problem instead?
Would it be possible for someone to host this elsewhere for those of us who havent gotten a chance to try it yet?

Erm.. right, so how does it work then? I've tried running the AvivoXCode icon and it does nothing. Tried running the setup bat, then running the exe and I get a Send/Don't Send error.

It's quick, but the iPod format at least was totally unrecognized by itunes. I haven't tried any others, nor have I tried the file outside of itunes.

Extract archive to desktop, double-click setup.bat then run "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AvivoXCode.exe" which is put there after you setup.

I get this message when I run setup.bat:
LoadLibrary)"C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\atixcode.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.
The rest works fine.
When I run AvivoXCode.exe it gives an error report with a send/dontsend window.
I guess these 2 are related. Please help.
EDIT: I have a Geforge Ti4200; Windows Xp Pro SP2

sinizterguy is an unknown quantity at this point
Does this version allow you to choose the size of the encoded file, and other detailed options ?

Or does it just give you best, medium, etc ?
