Tom Hanks turns out to launch Viiv

Quite a surprise watching Otellini drone on, then seeing all those chaps roll out!

Also a very novel spelling of "Broadband" there, too.

Oh, and the o's in "Proof" are the wrong way round. The first o is where the second should be, and vice-versa.

Hmm, it seems intel would like to become time-warner-intel maybe, this convergance of technologies and the obvious and resultant conglomeration of companies worries me.

Otellini presented what he believed would be the future of TV - a worldwide audience. He showcased several content producers from India, China and Spain that would be distributing their content via Viiv PCs, allowing for native language speakers to enjoy the local content wherever in the world they might be. We can only hope that more mainstream companies get on board - no more waiting 6 months for the new season of 24 in the UK!
woo this could actually be half decent
i still think the main problem with any idea like this is that its going to have a hard time being better than the illegal way
if its live (ie you can watch it at the same time its being broadcast everywhere else)
good quality (none of this crappy low bit-rate streams you get now)
ad-free
and pretty damn cheap
it might work, otherwise people will just torrent/whatever the eps instead

Three weeks to ship a million Yonahs Core Duos? That almost confirms it to me that Apple will be updating their iBooks to dual core next week at the mac show.

And I get to use a student discount on one Woot.

Now all we need for these cool-sounding content distro systems is to get decent broadband speeds out beyond Japan. I don't think my 4Mbit is going to cut it for anything decent. Especially as my SD transcodes tend to weigh in at anywhere from 2-3.5Mbit for just the video, plus overhead, etc. Once Fios is in my area, it's a different story I'd bet (15/2Mbit D/U for $50/mo? Yeah, sounds nice to me. Especially as it's faster than T1...)
