It's hardly sad if video games get a few overweight kids back to a better weight...

Heh, I read about this in the local newspaper back when they started it. Not really a bad idea. In all honesty, I think they need to extend the PE classes another half hour. That'll give the kids 2 hours of workout each day.

ppl here in our country here are weird, you dont need games like ddr to make a kid lose weight, what my parents used todo was give me a certain time slot for tv and games (max 2 hours a day) then i couldnt watch tv and if i turned TV or console on i would have them hidden from me, well also they would spank me lol. i have to say that its the parents fault the kids are overweight not the video games. well now i love my vid games but i also love playing sports

You dont get fat sitting in a chair playing videogames, or sitting in a chair talking on the computer all day. You get fat by eating a whole bag of cheeto's while doing said things. You dont need to limit these things, you need to limit the crap kids eat. I get litterally no exersize and sit at a computer -all- day (yes i have no life) and yet i lose weight because i eat healthy. It has nothing to do with these things.

i know im also are not fat but excersize is needed especially for a small kid, most kids wont eat healthy they love the sugar, fat loaded stuff. even if the parent hold the crap from them they will still eat it at school and kids dont realise that eating that is not healthy. also some people dont have fast metabolism.

Actually I think it is a great idea, but I think that its sad that people have become so lazy! maybe people will realize this if we cut down on health care support for people who suffer from lifestyle diseases!
DivineSin, whether you eat right or wrong, its still very unhealthy for you to sit in a chair all day!

Not like i can help it, i cant do much else, got in a car accident a while back and tore a ligament in my back that, according to my doctors will never heal. So unhealthy or not, not like i can do anything other than that.

But still, its the fatty foods people eat that make them fat, not videogames and tv.

Oh I'm sry to hear that m8! did'nt know, but still your previous post sounded like your were lecturing people about what's healthy and what's not, but that obviously is not true.

But yeah if you eat more food than your metabolism can burn then you will get fat, which basically happens when you eat alot of fatty foods! but still when you exercise, your metabolic rate will rise.

This is about 3 years too late imo.

But it is a good idea in some respects, however in all reality your just going to make the fat kid hungry, and he'll compensate. losing weight is a personal thing. I was losing a ton of weight right after I got back from Haiti, and I was spending the same amount of time in front of my computer than I am now. Now I started to put the fat back on when i added licorice and coke back into that equation.

I feel it's a good idea to use ddr to exercise. It's entertaining and fun, so kids want to do it and it helps lower the obesiety rate of the world.

This is just sad, that soo many are overweight! I think the biggest problem is that people try to treat the "symtoms" (in this case overweight) but not the "disease" (in this case the mentality/lifestyle).

Obesity is a lifestyle disease, which means that if we want to fight this problem we should be working on changing the general lifestyle. Problem is that that is very VERY difficult, people like their burgers, chips and so on. On top of that lack of exercise is a real problem, so I think the idea of using DDR is great, but it should be combined with education on good and healthy lifestyle.

So now I'm going to eat my Pizza and play GW the rest of the day :-D

well living right on the Ohio/West Virginia border, i see plenty of fat amaerican kids, i think its good to see the school trying to curve this, but how many people on welfare and social security can buy the setup to play ddr? i mean, their foodstamps for for doritos, slim jims, and mt dew, so they really cant even eat right, they dont buy like mack and cheese and green beans. besides, they have them big corn fed football boys who wanna put on the weight at a young age so they can be friday night heros.

so, forced exercise helps, but isnt that what gym class is for?

I'd agree, but having PE classes has been around for decades and the levels of obesity are rising, so surely something else is needed to making children healthier?
